Plastering fix

I’ve been taking off painted anaglypta wallpaper in the kitchen and found it has been hiding some pretty crappy plasterwork. I can’t afford a plaster as we will be replacing the whole kitchen and reworking the extension when we can afford it but not for a couple of years.

It seems whoever put the plastering on the roof also smeared plaster on the tops of the walls, so it has left raised random sweeps of dried plaster. It will come off, some has already lifted off, but it has string in it and I think it is caught into the ceiling. Any ideas on how to rescue this on the cheapest possible budget? Or would it be better just to paint over for now?

If you’re after a really cheap fix parcel tape over the holes or loose plaster to hold it all together then paint over it with emulsion. I have done this a few times before when I’ve needed to clean a room up by repainting for a few months ( once it was years) before replastering/wiring/plumbing etc.
Be generous with the parcel tape.

Great idea, thank you. Just saw I posted this twice in error. I will give this a go tomorrow.

The parcel tape is a great idea or you can try removing the crappy areas of plaster and fill it with Onefill.
That stuff is amazing! It’s like plaster but you just don’t need a plasterer to do it. Fill the areas and then sand down when dry! It can hide a multitude of sins!

Thanks, I picked some up today and have been working on it to chip off the old plaster and now it looks like this. Some more filling to do but I think I can get it looking fairly respectable with the parcel tape further up too.
