Water meters?

Am thinking about getting a water meter?

has anyone else swapped to having one...

are they really cheaper...

my combined water bill (for a 3 bed house) is about £300 / year (i have 2 different suppliers, one for waste water and one for drinking water, i pay about £80 for incoming clean water and £220 for waste water)

Im generally not here all day and at home i have probaly 4 baths and 2 showers per week (but my bath is a compact 'small' size bath so does use less water, and i dont have it that deep)

I have a new economical washing machine which is probably on about 6 times per month...

and wil be getting a dishwasher which will go on probably once a week ish! (to wash all my breakfast bowls).... (i cook and eat at work and eat with the children etc during the week!)

Any comments?

Ours is much cheaper - around 40%, even 2 years down the line

You can have ours! we don't like it but it came with the house we bought . I think you can trail it for a year (well you can here).

We've just had a first bill for ours since we moved in Feb. Total of standing charge for 6 months plus water usage for 3 is £80, based on which the projected annual cost would be about £210, for a family of 4 with me being here most days and wm and d/w. So on that basis it would probably save you money.

we save money
we pay about £200 a year, so about 50/60 cheaper than not being on a meter

this is with 3 kids, dishwasher run once a day, and the associated washing, baths, showers etc etc with a family of 5

I think everyone should have one

I now pay £276 per year fro a bigger house with 2 bathrooms

Used to pay £350 for smaller house when not on a meter.

wow!

so with just me it seems its worthwhile doing then!

yes im sure i can swap back to unmetered after a year as well if i want to so its worth considering
