Adding an arch for plants over a gate.

I have a very long fence across a tarmac drive. It has trellis on the top. There is a gate to one side next to a garden border. The gate is the same height as the fence, again has trellis on top. This gate can't be moved. There is a garden border next to the gate.

If I could get a plant trained over the gate in some way then this could cover the whole fence. I have googled and googled and just can't find a way to achieve this.

I was thinking of an arch either in front of the gate, bolted to the tarmac, or a little one attached to the fence posts.

I don't want to put the plant in a lot as it won't have enough roof run to enable it to cover the whole thing.

Can anyone help please? Thanks.

I can't envisage this so really need a diagram.
As far as I can understand you only have a suitable planting place at one side? It would take a very vigorous plant to grow all the way across. Climbers for fences are best planted centrally so the can fan out to left and right. Another consideration is the amount of sunlight. Climbers don't generally like shade so will grow towards the sunniest bit, which may not be on your side of the fence. If you have only got tarmac you could grow climbers in (very) large pots, but they would need a lot of attention re watering, feeding etc.

Yes, the only place to plant, in a border, is to the very far right hand side. The fence is very sunny all day. The bit of the fence before the gate is 2 feet. Then you get a long fence of around 20 feet then another gate. The issue is getting the plant trained over the gate opening.

I have had honeysuckle that has clothed a 30 foot fence in the past!

You can get fixings called Metposts which bolt down, the only thing is I don't know whether tarmac would be suitable as it's a bit soft, I've only used them on concrete. The thing about arches is that once they have got something growing on them they come under a lot of force from the wind, so need a very secure base. It might mean getting some of the tarmac replaced with concrete to make a secure footing, but if you were going to all that trouble, you might as well get a small bed dug in a more suitable position centrally to the fence.
Yes, honeysuckle grows fairly quickly, as does clematis Montana, although it can be a bit of a thug - it is very pretty though.
