I don't know a thing about making it smell like a spa, but I shampooed my rug this evening and it's made the whole downstairs smell amazing!

Mum2020 · 07/03/2019 23:08

With what did you shampoo the rug? Can I shampoo my stairs carpet with it?

MonsterKidz · 07/03/2019 23:14

Could you buy one of those plug in diffusers you put scented oils?

I used to have one from Neal’s Yard (It was expensive, it I had vouxhers) and it made the house smell amazing! I’ve see. Similar used in spas.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 07/03/2019 23:19

It’ll be aromatherapy oils you need.

TrainSong · 07/03/2019 23:20

Buy a White Company Fir Tree Candle or diffusers. You only need to burn it for 15 mins and the whole house is scented. Very Spa-like.

Millipedewithherfeetup · 07/03/2019 23:21

Bergamot or lemongrass essential oils in a diffuser will give a real spa smell !

LuckyMarmiteLover · 07/03/2019 23:22

White Company have a Spa range Smile

WitBeyondMeasure · 07/03/2019 23:23

@Mum2020 I used the vanish carpet shampoo. It's about £6 a can

WitBeyondMeasure · 07/03/2019 23:24

@Mum2020 and yes you can do your stairs and carpet with it

INeedNewShoes · 07/03/2019 23:26

Essential oils on tissues on the radiators (remove just before they arrive).

Rather than aiming for a spa feel though I'd just get a pot of coffee brewing.

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/03/2019 23:26

You need a swanky aromatherapy candle. My friend gave me a Neom one that’s so amazing I haven’t even burnt it yet and someone asked me the other day why my cloakroom smelled so nice.

Aldi do some gorgeous ones as a better budget option!

Muddysnowdrop · 07/03/2019 23:29

I burn candles and can hardly smell anything makes very little difference - Yankee ones, Ikea, Aldi, jo malone - perhaps it my my sense of smell not the candles! Though I can smell chocolate and wine easily..

wowfudge · 07/03/2019 23:43

Air the place well - airfresheners and scented candles will make viewers think you are trying to cover something up.

INeedNewShoes · 08/03/2019 00:10

If you're looking to sell, just a thought...

If I was looking to buy and walked into a house that smells strongly of air freshener or other fragrances, I would wonder if you were concealing a another smell: damp, mould, dog, weed, tobacco etc.

INeedNewShoes · 08/03/2019 00:12

Oops, what Wowfudge just said.

I think you'd be better off getting all the windows open for a couple of hours, then go for a natural smell ( like coffee) if you feel the need to.

Or maybe a bunch of fragrant flowers in the hallway and on the landing.

Mosaic123 · 08/03/2019 07:51

I'd be suspicious of strong artificial smells, also some people are sensitive to chemicals or even flowers. Just fresh air is good and don't cook anything smelly for a couple of days beforehand either.

Justonemorepancake · 08/03/2019 07:53

Whenever I dry freshly washed items on the radiator it makes the house smell great. You could soak some tea towels in something nice smelling and drape them over the back of the radiator then stick the heating on just before they come!

HisBetterHalf · 08/03/2019 07:57

Scentsy?

Muddysnowdrop · 08/03/2019 08:01

I stuck the bread maker on before viewers came once Blush

Beebumble2 · 08/03/2019 08:07

Fresh flowers are lovely, freesias, lilies and hyacinths.

Etino · 08/03/2019 08:10

Spas smell damp!
Open the windows.

I did a 2-week stint in an estate agent when I was 18 as holiday cover so this is what I can take from that experience.

I was given a box of sprays and the keys to an empty house with the instructions to spray x here and x there, give x number of pumps to x bottle. Close the door on the rooms after you have sprayed them, so I did and returned to the office with the box, as there were no scents at all after spraying, only a box of bottles with numbers and instructions.

I was asked to open up the house late that afternoon for viewing so when I did I was very surprised.

• The scent of flowers when opened the front door in to the hallway,
• The coffee brewing and bread baking in the kitchen,
• The bathroom had a kind of fruity shower gel type scent at the bath/shower side and towards the toilet end smelled of disinfectant
• The bedrooms smelt of clean linen.
• The living room smelled of furniture polish and leather.

I should add that the house was completely bare. The house was sold that day pending reports.

Mum2020 · 08/03/2019 09:23

Thanks all! Sadly, I Can’t step out today as the car is still at servicing. I don’t have a coffee/bread maker. I have:

  1. Lavender and eucalyptus essential oil
  2. Rose room fresheners - spray kind
  3. Comfort yellow fabric conditioner

What’s the best I can do with these?
