New build delay and compensation

I'm buying a new build house on an estate in south London and have found out today that another buyer has agreed a reduction on the sale price because of the 3 month delay. We've exchanged contracts but would it be reasonable to ask for the same? Could we do via our solicitor? I just don't know if it's worth pursuing.

It's worth a try! Have you paid extra for any upgrades? Could it be taken off that?

Thanks for replying! I'll give it a go, our solicitor is brilliant. No upgrades although they are paying our stamp duty. I guess it will be tricky to get much post exchange.

I don't think that you can legally expect anything prior to 6 months delay, however, it is always worth a try asking, especially if someone else negotiated a discount. Are you in rented? We completed on our house sale & spent 2 months in rented (short term let) before getting our keys. Originally we were told Dec/Jan for completion, this changed till April, but we finally got keys 1st Feb, so not far out.

We are renting. I suppose I just wonder how they can give one buyer compensation but not us? Can they do that? How do they decide whom to compensate?

Did they reserve at the same time as you?

To be honest they can do what they want... usually he who shouts loudest gets what they want.
No harm in asking
How do you know about the other people getting a discount?

twirlywhoops · 07/03/2019 22:31

So the developers have said no to any compensation. I just don't get it. We reserved first so have been waiting the longest. I wonder why they gave it to someone else? They did agree to pay our stamp duty so maybe that's why? I wonder if I should pursue this or leave it...

Probably should speak to others and figure out what they were offered so you know if you're "even".

I know what compensation they were offered - I don't know what extras they got in the purchase process and I wouldn't feel comfortable asking. Oh well, I'll sleep on it. Is there some ombudsman type person for this sort of thing?

What does your contract say?
