Can anyone recommend a quiet extractor hood which will fit into a chimney

We are in the middle of a DIY kitchen fit and (in both sense i e. doing it ourselves and DIY kitchen units) and I have just realised that we need to find an extractor fan for the cooker. We have 110cm space for a cooker in the chimney breast and are going to vent it through a false ceiling to an external wall but I am having problems finding a hood wide enough which will fit into a chimney. They all seem to be the big hood ones. Surely someone on Mumsnet has got a set up with a fan set into a chimney? Quiet would also be good but I assume I can't have everything!

110mm wide, and how deep?

Would you like a cabinet resembling your wall cabinets, with the extractor inside it?

45cm deep but we are putting an over mantle shelf in so if it sticks out I can make it less obvious with some trim. I will try to add a pic. Height to lintel is 147cm.

I am hoping the body of the extractor can be squeezed inside the chimney

the height looks insufficient. Hob to top of opening is what, nearly 600mm?

you will be banging your face on it, and it will probably not meet the manufacturer's clearance.

I think you need something fixed to the face of the wall above the opening, with the lowest point slightly higher than the head of anyone likely to be stirring the porage.

if you're having a false ceiling you can put it inside that.

Thanks Piglet. Do you think we could we fix something to the internal face of the chimney?

It would be too low and too close to the hob.

I have the same setup and used an Elica Eliplane 80. They were available from JL at the time, but there only appear to be a few limited suppliers online now such as:

I cut some white furniture board to make a housing for it and then recessed it into the chimney. The 2 good features (for me) of this extractor are:

  1. Only needs 65/75cm clearance from the hob (elec/gas)
  2. It was only 14cm high which I needed since space inside my chimney was extremely restricted.

I don't believe there's enough height in the chimneybreast.

a canopy type (Elica make several) would do the job but I think the cabinet needs to be fixed to the face of the chimney, higher than the opening. it could easily go in a cabinet styled to match the kitchen units, and possibly aligned with the tops of the wall cabs.

I've got this one and my cooker is fitted into a chimney that looks just like yours:
