Facelift

I am interested in buying a 1930s detached house but it needs a front facelift. The layout works generally but the outside is unattractive. The road has a mix of houses. They are all different. Some are 1930s, possibly 1950s and the odd one is 1970s.

My question is roughly how much would it cost? There are two shallow bay windows that I'd like to remove.

Surely this is a "how long is a piece of string" question? You can spend as much as you like.
I would also caution against altering the original look of the house (unless this has already been done and is what you are trying to undo / prettify). Houses almost always look better as nature (the architect!) intended.
When you look at a row of houses, it's the ones that have had unsympathetic windows / porches / cladding / extensions added retrospectively that don't age well. You have to remember that all these owners thought they were improving their homes at the time, yet the nicest houses in the road are often the ones which have had their original appearance and features respected.
Would you consider posting a photo of the house (no need to reveal its location) - so we could more fairly comment on what would improve the aesthetics - and the possible cost of the works?

Bay windows make for bigger rooms, probably more light and a less restricted view out.

Is anyone is knowledgeable in terms of cost per square metre/number of floors? I'm assuming that this is cheaper than a two storey extension?

None of the windows are original and I'm not keen to preserve brown wood effect upvc, even if it exemplifies the style of 1995. The bays are added on. I currently have floor to ceiling curved bays in an Edwardian property with originally windows. I'm happy to preserve these.

Anyone undertaken a face lift?
