Is there such a thing as a powerful electric shower?

We have the crappiest shower ever in our ensuite. We can't afford to plumb in a proper mains shower (we'd have to retile) but we can afford to change the electric box.... Is it worth doing? Are they ever powerful enough? We have good water pressure, if that makes any difference.

No.

Oh bloody hell. Thank you Pigletjohn. I'm going to have to learn how to tile, aren't I?

how do you heat your hot water?

have you considered surface-mounted chrome pipes?

Baby2namehelp · 24/02/2019 09:57

My mum has a nice electric shower...it’s not as good as her other shower but better then a lot of showers I’ve been in. Also good if your hot water is the on the blink.

We've got a combi boiler. I've never heard of them before... I'll Google now. Thank you.

Ah, see what you mean about surface mounted pipes!

I wish you could try before you buy!! This our second shower and the fact it would work if the boiler was off is a positive.

If you've got a combi boiler the hot water should be set to ON all the time. You'll only be heating water when you turn on the hot tap. There's no hot water cylinder.

You used to be able to buy electric showers with pumps inside to increase the power of the water

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 24/02/2019 11:15

8.4kw electiric will be better than a 7kw one. Shop around. It's never going to feel like you are in the rainforest under a waterfall ... but it will clean your armpits ok !

If you have good water pressure and a combi boiler to heat water on demand then I'm struggling to understand why you need an electric shower.

notanothernam · 24/02/2019 11:26

We have a new build house no combi boiler (whatever the opposite is called!) it's not electric it's just plumbed water mains and it's brilliant, it's not the strongest shower we've had (doesn't hurt) but it's genuinely very good. I've always wondered how it gets it's power considering it's not electric? But our bath water runs very hard and fast so many good water pressure generally??

maybe you have a gas boiler and a hot water cylinder.
