Washing machine woes

My 10yr old washing machine has just stopped mid cycle. No major issues prior to this.

I hoped it was the fuse so changed it but noticed the plastic cover over the fuse had sort of melted into position & it had to be broken / chiselled off. No signs of actual plug melting & no burning smell. Tried new fuse but still no power.

Any thoughts? Is it a write off or any ideas I can try? Would it be safe to use without a plastic cover over the fuse anyway?

Pic of plug with fuse removed is attached.

Or is there another place I should post this?

melting plug sounds like an electrical fault.
is it a stand alone socket? has the fuse in the fuse box jumped as well?

Hi green it was plugged into an extension 😱 but it is the only thing plugged into it as the machine got moved 3m back but the electrics on the extension we lagging behind so it was a make-do for a short period. About 7 years ago. However the extension lead is totally fine & has power to it, no signs of heat etc. Only ever used in the machine's old single socket & only used for this purpose. The issue def lies with the wash machine.

My dilema over a new machine is that any new installation would have the warranty unvalidated if i plugged into an extension. So as well as a new machine I'd need to get a new socket (extension still a mess due to bodge-it builders) and our kitchen extension roof leaks (not a quick fix either as needs structural investigations) so I think it'd need an outdoor type RCD socket. Argh. I could cry.

you can get an electrician fix a longer lead. or move a power point close enough.
extension leads are not a good idea for big appliances.

That should've said.

At 10 years old is just get a new one to be honest. You've done well together that long out of it.

Staycalmandscream · 23/02/2019 11:35

I didn't know they could lengthen actual appliance cords, worth knowing.

Not a write off at all, for the sake of a new plug just get it replaced. Should take a decent repair person whatever the call out fee is plus whatever a plug costs.

johnd2 · 23/02/2019 13:33

That's assuming it's only the plug with an issue, there could always be a problem elsewhere too

silverbackmale · 23/02/2019 13:47

I agree with johnd2 try replacing the plug first from your picture it looks like the fuse has been loose and got very hot.
