Replacing conservatory roof

Hi all,

Has anyone replaced their conservatory roof with a solid, insulated but lightweight roof?
Is it noticeably warming in winter/cooler in summer?
We've currently got a polycarbonate roof and it's unbearable in the winter.

Just looking for others advice and experience and debating whether a viable alternative to knocking down and building an expensive extension.

Many thanks for all suggestions Smile

I had a solidroof installed and got rid of my glass roof about 5 years ago. Meant I could use it all year round and looked more like an actual extension rather than a conservatory.

Was very expensive but 10/10 recommend! :) You might need planning permission from what I remember but check with a couple of installers.

We did ours with a special lightweight version. Looks like an extension now... It's been insulated, electrics put into the ceiling so we now have spot lights...
Honestly, the best thing we've ever done- before it was too hot in summer, too cold in winter and too noisy when it rained.
Plus, it was open plan with the kitchen and dining room, so no escaping it ever!

We replaced ours last summer with a lightweight tiled roof. It looks great and is noticeably warmer in winter and cooler in summer. We had spot lights added and outside lighting that we didn’t have before. It cost 9k in Yorkshire and it’s not a big conservatory.

It was worth every penny though to us. It is lovely and can be used all year round.it looks and feels like an extension now,

We looked at doing it but the quotes we were getting were silly money. In the end, we took the conservatory down, and rebuilt it as an extension with 3 sets of bifold oak doors and a proper roof with velux windows. In the end, we spent the same money as the quotes but now have a proper room we use all the time.

Brilliant, thank you everyone!

It's good that you've all had positive experiences. The quotes we've had are pretty high so was concerned we'd spend the money and not notice a lot of difference. Thanks for allaying my fears! ☺️
