Mock Tudor houses - can they be changed?

I have very little knowledge of building/construction, hoping someone can help.

I see lots of 'normal' semi detached houses being reskimmed with a more modern frontage and wonder if the same can be done for mock Tudor. My area has lots of mock ~Tudor detached homes but my husband is really put off by the way they look.

Has anyone done it? How much did/would it cost?

Many mock Tudor timbers are just thin wooden planks attached to the wall, so theoretically can easily be removed and then the area rendered or pebbledashed to match the rest of the house.
Some may be more integrated and actually form part of the structure, which would be much harder and costly to sort.
Just painting the timbers and background render the same colour can reduce the impact.
You would need to check that the property wasn't in a Conservation Area as planning permission would probably be required (and if one of many similar houses, probably wouldn't be given).
