Hi all, I've been looking at improving the lighting in my house as it's way too dark, and have across solar tubes as an option.

I've found what I think is it a pretty good company to go to, but I want to know what everyone's opinions are on using solar tubes?

Thanks!

I'm thinking of having one too OP. No natural light in my hall. Worried about it leaking

We have 2 small ones, it has made a difference.
A friend lives in a 3 storey house and installed one above the stairs on (windowless) landing. Made a huge difference, improved light right down to basement

That sounds good! Yes, I've a windowless landing but to a side extension years ago.

Thanks for that Breakfast. I've just had a look and found solarspot.co.uk/ as well so may end up going with them. Does anyone have any before and after pictures I can look at?

Velux site has a light calculator and tells you how many you might need given how your house is oriented.

When we extended our kitchen we blocked up the (useless for ventilation) bathroom window and put in a decent extractor and solar tube.
It's great. I'm amazed how much light comes in - even moonlight / streetlights. I can use the bathroom at night and not have to switch on the electric light. Obviously there will be a difference between the natural light you will get in Summer versus Winter. No problems with leaking.
One thing to consider is you can't "switch it off" - I'm not sure if they come with an internal cover / blind. This might not be an issue for you. Go for it.
