Screw covers for hanging mirror from a chain.

I am hanging some mirrors and pictures that hang from chains. We need to use a screw and rawl plug, we can't use a picture hook due to the wall type.

The screw looks awful as you can see it through the chain.

Is there a decorative cover I could put on top? Any ideas as I bought quite a few! Thanks.

you could use an ornametal hook.

What size is the chain?

What colour is the wall and what colour is the chain?

What is the wall made of?

How much does the mirror weigh?

Post some pics if you feel like it.

Here is a picture!

They aren't massive at all, or heavy, but the wall is very solid so needs the screw rather than a nail.

Ornamental hook is a good idea.

there's an ornamental swag hook used for curtain hold-backs. It has a large shoulder at the base to prevent it bending or loosening under load. There is a sturdy screw.

Mostly brass or chrome finish but black iron is probably available, or you could paint it to match the wall.

Or garden screw-hooks which are simpler.

An ordinary cup-hook would not be strong enough, nor long enough to get a grip into the plug in the brick (plaster has no strength, so disregard it).

PigletJohn · 17/02/2019 18:00

off topic. but when you put a plasplug into a wall, tap it down so it lies lower than the surface of the plaster. This reduces the risk of plaster cracking, and means that when you tire of it, you need only a dab of filler in the dimple, no need to wrench out the plug leaving a vast crater.

you can tap it in by putting the point of a small screw in the centre and tapping it with a small hammer. When it is sunk, use a screwdriver to remove the screw.

Thanks so much.

Wowfudge, I have used those elsewhere, but this wall is so solid it needs to be drilled.

I used a mirror screw which had a shiny cap. Ok in a bathroom but you might not want shiny silver elsewhere...

Could you tie a satin bow through the chain to disguise it?

How about sticking a diamanté over the screw head?

Wingedharpy · 18/02/2019 01:06

Try www.screwmaster.co.uk
They have a selection under mirror screws which have the screw bit for fixing , then a separate screw in head cover to disguise the screw.
Not a huge selection but adequate.

Sabulous · 21/02/2019 20:34

I stuck an old button on ours!

FaultInMyStars · 21/02/2019 20:44

Paint over the screw to match the wall? That's what I do.

bananapeanutbutterandtoast · 21/02/2019 21:54

I've got something from either Wickes or B and Q for this. Will add a pic

bananapeanutbutterandtoast · 21/02/2019 21:55

It's a proper screw with a little screw on cover

bananapeanutbutterandtoast · 21/02/2019 22:01

Look online for 'mirror screws' my pic won't upload. Screwfix also do them

Sillybilly1234 · 21/02/2019 22:03

Amazon sell all different types of screw caps. They might look better.
