Smile, sorry but can you tell me how to stick on the edges of a couple of my kitchen doors where the laminate is coming off. I tried Evostick Impact earlier and held it in place with straps for a few hours ... no effect at all.

Thanks very much.

Sorry to say - dont think any sticking will work - the foil coating has become warped and it wont go back again - are the doors near any heat - are the kitchen units still under warranty

Boxlikeahare · 15/02/2019 20:43

No Dolly, they are not. I bought the house last spring and reckoned that the people I bought from had their kettle there. Then I looked at the photos and yep, there it was.

I need to do the best I can, if I could find something that half melted it as well as stuck it down it could be ok enough.

I have just found this firm and emailed them for a quote - I don't particularly like my kitchen doors but it is a big kitchen (40 doors/drawers) and so I need to live with it unless I get a win on the premium bonds!

I don't know. Foil-wrap doors are very prone to doing that. If you can work out where they came from you might be able to get a matching door.

A trick you can use is to swap the door with another of the same dimensions, putting the damage at the top where it is not noticeable. The hinges are spaced so they will go either way up, depending on whether you want them hinged left or hinged right.

Photograph a hinge please, some of them can be unclipped without even needing a screwdriver.

a photo of the underneath of a wall cab, and the inside of an empty cab, will tell us if it is self-assembly or rigid build. A photo of some doors might mean someone can can identify the supplier. There is a faint chance you might find a sticker saying "Homebase" or "Wickes" or something.

FrostedSnowdrops · 15/02/2019 21:20

If the bottom of the door is flat could you staple it down? 😬

bsc · 15/02/2019 21:21

Lurking around, as I have this issue with the door beneath the sink. I want to sell this year, and can't afford new doors! I've no idea where they're from to even buy just one replacement.

Boxlikeahare · 15/02/2019 21:32

I will see if I can find anything in the paperwork I inherited. I don’t think I could reverse a door or turn it upside down because of the handles could I?

It was a new house in 2004 PJ. Installed by the builder. I will take more photos.

the handle makes it more tiresome, but handles are just held on with two tiny screws. Usually M4 (4mm dia.) x about 25mm long.

PigletJohn · 15/02/2019 21:39

Builder? See if you can find it on here

or here

PigletJohn · 15/02/2019 21:42

is it this one?

Boxlikeahare · 15/02/2019 22:17

Thanks PJ, that is amazing. I think it might be the dark beech one. Only because I bought a beech flat pack bookcase to stick on the end recently for my cookbooks and it is a perfect match.

I had presumed that the world had moved on from that style of door. I will order a couple of colour samples.

there are usually surplus ones on fleabay for a few years after a design has been discontinued.

I once bought the whole of a Scottish warehouse remaining stock because the kitchen I wanted was no longer available. I'd bought it for my previous house and wanted it again after moving.

Boxlikeahare · 16/02/2019 07:36

Wow! I am not sure it is the dark beech one after looking again, it has got a bevel in the door. I have emailed them some photos.

To me it looked more like the light oak one. Just comparing your photo.

Boxlikeahare · 16/02/2019 15:33

I am sort of hoping not PJ as they have only got 1220mm height doors in light oak! I will report back on whether I can get two doors - if not I might give that company a go if they cover my area. Anything to avoid having to replace or bodge it!

there'll be millions of doors in that colour, you just need to wait for one to crop up.

You can buy a whole second-hand kitchen for a hunded pounds, sometimes.
