Cambridge villages

Anyone here live in Fulbourn? We're hoping to move there in the very near future with our 2 young daughters aged 6 and 3 (and another baby on the way) and would love to gather some local contacts and get some burning questions answered! It's a big move and would love to get as much reassurance as possible! Thanks in advance.

I don't so this probably isn't helpful but my friend is renovating a house there and says it is really friendly. It's also easy for her to cycle to work in Cambridge.

I'm very close to Fullbourn and drive through it every day. One of my children also goes to preschool there. It's a lovely village and I'd move there if I could afford it.
What do you want to know?

Thank you for the messages and sorry for the slow reply. I had completely forgotten to check the threads. We're torn between trying to live within the city boundaries where our children will have more independence when they reach their teenage years versus Fulbourn where we get more space and house for our money. Coming from London whatever we choose will be a big change! I loved the primary school when I looked around and the village did have a nice feel. I was a little concerned it's a bit of an old person's place - any thoughts? Also, bit scared about whether or not being in a village means a lack of multicultural influence and less open-minded attitudes. I don't mean that at all to be insulting but coming from a very multicultural part of South London it is something that worries me.

Fulbourn is only five more minutes cycle ride outside town, buses are frequent, it won't be a problem (and probably saves you £250k!).

Cambridge is very white apart from the transient student population so you're stuck with that everywhere. Despite that, the general attitude is very positive and multicultural though in a slightly theoretical naice middle class way. It won't be the same as having a school class that's really mixed like you would in London, we had max three non-white folk in a class of 30 when I was growing up, sometimes none (south side of Cambridge town, Fulbourn side).

Thank you, that's actually pretty reassuring - it's more the attitudes that I want to make sure we're aligned to. The exposure to multicultural diversity will need to come from elsewhere which's fine - the children already have good grounding in that. In terms of cycling - google says 30 mins from Fulbourn to city centre - is it a safe manageable journey do you know? I will do it tomorrow by car out of interest when we go to visit the area again. And yes, the amount you get for your money in Fulbourn is definitely a huge advantage with a growing family in need of increasing space!

30 minutes? I'd have to actively dawdle to take more than 15 to get to eg Lion Yard.
There are reasonable cyclepaths/ways for the whole trip, and Cambridge is notoriously cycle friendly. Awful to drive around though - two sides of the same coin! I would not recommend taking a car in at all.

want multicultural food - Mill Road! lots of park& ride buses & Addenbrookes is an excellent Hospital (I say this with deep appreciation) picnics on the backs, good museums, the Botanic Gardens, decent shopping, good schools, nice tea rooms, good vegetarian restaurant (I like Cambridge! :) )
