Tiling advice

DH and I are unable to agree on kitchen tiles and it's becoming a problem as the tiler is available next week or after two months. I would rather get it done as soon as possible.

We have a small galley kitchen with dove grey modern gloss cupboards and white quartz worktops. Most kitchen appliances are grey. I like the idea of white bevelled subway tiles as our budget is now very tight and it will also help keep the kitchen light. DH prefers grey bevelled subway tiles as blacksplash for the area behind the worktops. The higher cupboards meet the low ceiling so no area above them to tile. That leaves the area around and above the window and the forth wall which is empty apart from the door. I would like these areas painted a nice light colour but DH has got it in his head to have them tiled with a different tile. A larger grey one he has seen. I just cant picture it. Who has two different types of tiles in a tiny kitchen? The two tiles wont meet anywhere but it looks awful in my mind's eye. Is it actually a thing that's done? He says he doesn't want the subway tiles on a full wall and doesnt want it painted.

He does most of the cooking so spends considerably more time in there than I do but after spending so much money on renovating the whole house I want the kitchen to look nice like the rest of the house!

Can you post a photo so we can see both the splashback and the area your DH wants to use a bigger tile for?

I don’t think it will be good to tile the door wall - is that what he wants?

Two different tiles can look ok but If you tile all walls it will look like bathroom. Your DH might be thinking large tiles would e easy to clean.

You could have two different types of tiles but if they're both grey they should at least be matching shades. But it sounds like with grey cabinets, appliances, backsplash and extra tiles it will be VERY grey.

I'm on your side, OP! Can you sketch out both versions & colour them in to show your husband? Or knock it up quickly in the Ikea planner (even if not an Ikea kitchen) to see the colour/light difference side by side? (You can add tiles & paint colours to the planner, useful for visualising.)
