Spray painted or hand painted kitchen units?

Falcon1 · 12/02/2019 20:05

We're buying a 1909 slab unpainted kitchen from units online so that we can have a bespoke colour. The builder has given us the option of spray painted or hand painted. What do people think is the best option? Not sure I've ever seen a hand painted kitchen to be honest! Do they look better?
All opinions welcome!

factory painted from the supplier woud be best.
they use a diff structure of paint

Thanks Diseno, unfortunately they don't do the colour we want. Does it make a big difference getting it from the factory already painted?

Interesting! I'll have to follow that up with units online

1909 being inframe etc
hand painting could cost you 2k ish
what colour you looking for?

My painter paints my in frame kitchen for a couple of days labour and the cost of the paint - so about £500 maximum.

Spray painted almost looks like plastic or a laminate finish to me. But if you don't like brush strokes go for spray.

I’ve been round and round on this one.

Spray painted (if done really well) is more durable.

BUT if it does chip, it can’t be touched up easily at home like hand painted can. You can take the door off and send it to be resprayed but that won’t work with inframe if the chip is on the frame, also there’s a risk the new spray won’t come out quite the same.

Also harder to change your mind about the colour and have a change of look a few years down the line.

The finish with spray painted is totally smooth, almost like plastic as a pp said. Hand painted has brush strokes if you look closely. Matter of preference which you prefer. I temd to think smooth is better for ultra modern doors and slight brush marks for shaker or similar.
