Can I paint this stuff straight onto already painted or varnished furniture? Do I have to sand down the furniture first or use a primer or is it like chalk paint? Thanks

Not like chalk paint at all and not great quality so definitely need to sand and prime first. Sorry, realise that's probably not the answer you were hoping for.

I painted two previously chalk painted bedside cabinets with emulsion ( it was Johnstone’s vinyl Matt in a f&b colour) and it was better coverage than the chalk paint had been, cheaper, has lasted better and took about 5 minutes to do and then 5 minutes more to dry. It’s a similar finish.

I wouldn’t ever bother with chalk paint again, it seems a complete bloody swiz!

I did run it down first but literally a quick wipe with a sanding pad then took off the dusk with a damp cloth.

If you want a finish that will last and withstand wear, use gloss, satinwood or eggshell paint on furniture. I would use a suitable primer first.
