bespoke kitchen not finished nearly 2 yrs on WWYD?

I'll keep this as brief as possible. We ordered a bespoke kitchen in 2017. They started in April 2017. It has been badly fitted (doors don't close properly etc) and we are still missing 2 doors and have another door on the wrong way round. We tried to sort this amicably with the company but have failed and are now using the legal services that come with our house insurance. The person who we have been allocated is a paralegal (so not legally trained), and doesn't seem that great. The point we are at now is that we are trying to appoint a joint assessor. (We have already had the kitchen assessed by 2 other kitchen companies both of whom said it would cost £10k to fix, but apparently we can't use these reports in court because they aren't independent). Our solicitor put forward 2 chartered surveyors (because apparently they deal with assessing kitchens Hmm ) which the kitchen company flatly refused to use. They suggested an alternative that they have used before (presumably with a favourable outcome). We don't think someone who they have used before is independent as they will already have an opinion of the standard of work, based on their previous assessment. Our paralegal (on our instigation) requested a 2nd option, which has also been provided. None of their options are even vaguely local. I feel like we are being forced to agree to their choice. DH and I are now at the point of saying that we can each appoint our own assessors and going form there. The paralegal says the judge will look dimly on this. Can anyone advise? I may also post in legal.

I don't think there is such an ombudsman for kitchens specifically. I would have thought 2 reports would be okay , one from you and them. I assume there is other issues here , why a company wouldn't just fit the last 2 doors (it must be cheaper than the hassle and legal action) or why it would cost £10000 to fit these doors and adjust the others ? I would tackle the solicitors firm and make sure you couldn't get someone with a bit more clout to deal with your case .

Have you done a social media campaign on the company's FB/Instagram saying 2 years on and still not sorted.......

chickencellar, yes obvs there is much more than i've put in the first post. A significant worker in the company became very unwell, so that slowed up their time schedules, they were using a temporary shit fitter, they were impossible to get hold of in person once they had our money, although that has worked to our advantage, because everything is now via email. They gave us less than 24 hrs notice when the wanted to come and do something, so not surprisingly on some occasions I simply couldn't drop tools and go home to let them in, so they have accused us of not allowing access to our house, despite multiple emails with multiple dates when they COULD come. Its a sorry tale.

A paralegal does have legal training btw. Escalate things with your insurers - that's where the hold up is now.

Can't help with the legal aspects but out of interest how did you pay? If you used credit card you get protection on purchases.

What a nightmare for you. I had a bespoke kitchen fitted and once we finalised the design and put the deposit down it took six weeks from start to finish. We didn’t pay the final half until after the small snagging list was completed and the owner came and checked the work and made sure we were completely satisfied. The workmen swept up the kitchen each visit and took away any rubbish.
I am sorry to hear you weren’t treated properly and hope you have a good outcome.
Did you have to pay the full price before they were finished?

It doesn't happen to be a company with the initials L E by any chance does it??

Playingfootball · 14/02/2019 19:25

Initials aren't LE. Based in Herts. Yes we paid everything up front. Lesson learned.
