Show me your Anaglypta!

We are buying a house that is covered in anaglypta. It's not going to be practical for us to remove it in the hallway and landing and I'm looking for some inspiration to make me feel better about it. I don't hate it and as it's an oldish house it does add character but currently it's very dirty and stained (as is the whole house) and I'm trying to work out how best to style it.
Would anyone mind sharing pictures of their Anaglypta success stories please? I'd love to see before and afters if you have them too!

I'm not sure what you mean by styling it? Just paint it a nice clean colour of your choice. White is way easier than other colours in a hallway as it just blends into the ceiling.

My success story is not what you asked for but ours stripped off amazingly well in our hall. Whole sheets of it just peeled right off. The rest of the house was woodchip and a nightmare.

I suppose I was wondering what paint finish works well, matt or more of a sheen. Styling the pattern with a colour. Ours is a floral tile type pattern but I've seen some images of art deco patterns that have been painted green which look lovely.

Interesting to here yours came off easily, it looks so think and heavy I'd assumed it'd be a nightmere.

lots of lovely examples if you put the word anaglypta into pinterest

I love anaglypta in period houses.

Perhaps go for contemporary colours to avoid looking too Victorian? I've seen a gorgeous navy blue anaglypta hallway recently.

Matt will look less dated I think.

I will look on pinterest thanks.
Blue sounds good, it's on trend at the moment but I think blue is always a classic.

Not proper anaglypta, just textured cheap wallpaper put up YEARS ago by the previous owners, but we were in a similar dilemma.

Due to other stuff going on with life we decided against stripping, skimming and painting - the plan being to freshen up with paint and new flooring and carpet to see us through for a few years and then redecorate properly. However, I think the freshen up made such a difference that me may just leave it as it is. We used high density pigment matt paint, I would think any sort of sheen would just highlight any imperfections and draw more attention to the texture.

Here’s our before and after (I can’t seem to get the pics to display in order, the single peachy one is before, the two dark grey/green and white are after):

Thanks millmolly, the texture looks very subtle. I wonder if it's the high pigment paint.
Love your flooring by the way!

We've found out we're going to have to have a full rewire so will end up having to remove some of the paper from the hallway and landing space, but will leave it up on the high stair walls for ease and hope it looks ok. If it looks crap we'll have to get it removed but I really hope it doesn't come to that as it will add more cost having to get someone in to do it for us

Not the best pic. Ours is painted in f and b elephants breath. I was all for having it stripped when we moved in but it suits the age of the house (1906)

Pic won't attach

We have a lot of Anaglypta on the ground floor of our '30s house. It's not what we'd pick for new, but it hides a multitude of sins and you can get still buy the paper if you need to patch sections.

F&B Skimming Stone (colour matched by B&Q) is lovely.
