Undermount or overmount kitchen sink?

Just that. I have to decide pretty soon so opinions on either would be gratefully received (with reasons), especially from anyone who’s had experience of both. I would like a double bowl (not 1.5 bowls) with no drainer.

Sorry to make it sound like an exam!

Well I chose undermount for my main kitchen sink as that was the look I wanted (sleeker in the worktop imo).

But overmount (though with a narrow band only not a massive drainer or anything) for the utility because it was cheaper.

I’m not sure there’s a better or worse it’s just about personal preference.

Neither!—I would go for a flush-mounted sink every time rather than an undermount or inlay (overmount). Completely seamless with the worktop.

I was supposed to have that when my kitchen was redone but the carpenter f*ed up and I now have an inlay sink instead!

I have an over mount SS sink in my laundry room because it is large and has a plumbed in draining board that takes wet hand washing!

I have an under mount SS single veg prep sink in the kitchen. Handy but not very big. I also have a double ceramic butler sink. None of these two sinks have a drainer. If I was having one sink, it would be the large double butler sink. Easy to keep clean, you can do two things at once and the second sink can be a drainer. It’s bigger than most ss double sinks. It’s perfect after 8 years.

Depends on your work surface. Don't whatever you do, have an undermount in a wooden work surface unless you want it to look manky within a few months. Mine is all black around the taps as when hands are washed the water drips off your hands as you turn the tap off. And manky around the join between the top of the sink and the bottom of the work surface despite my best efforts to keep on top of it.

Thanks everyone. I’ve chosen an undermount, the worktop and sinks are both (different types of) composite so hopefully that will keep issues to a minimum.
