We’re mid refurb of a Victorian house, up till now ventilation has been provided by leaky windows and ancient noisy bathroom fans.
After the refurb things will hopefully be a bit more airtight but that means we need to consider ventilation more.
We are considering putting a PIV unit (positive input ventilation) into the loft. Has anyone got one of these?
As I understand it, the idea is that it slowly pushes new air from the loft (which is vented) into the house all the time. In turn this forces old stale air out of any cracks in the house. We will still have some old windows and doors so still quite a few outlets for the old air. Any experiences with PIVs welcome.
Also, to avoid having noisy extractor fans in the bathrooms and utility room, I’m considering having quieter continuous/trickle fans instead. These would be wired to a timer so they are off at night but on for say 16 hours a day. Again has anyone got these rather than the more usual type of fan which is only on when the bathroom is being used? Are they effective at clearing a bathroom?
Thanks
