Good areas to live in Greater London

Hi,
My partner and I are looking to move from Reading closer to London. We'd like to have a nice neighborhood, with great high streets that offer shops, restaurants, pubs/bars etc. We need to have good connections to airport and central London due to our work and are looking for 3-bedroom houses.
Any idea what areas would be good to look at?
We have a budget of 500-600k.

Also Hampton is about a 50 min train journey to Waterloo.

So basically you want to stay near Heathrow, supposedly because you work there or because you use it a lot, but don't want to live in the areas affected by its noise?

wasn't to sure about Ruislip, Ickenham and Eastcote, as they are close to Harrow and Uxbridge and we've been told to be careful around these areas.

Why do you have to careful around there? What's wrong with them?

Have a look at Perivale. Central line into the city, near Heathrow, lots of green spaces and property in your budget.

What's wrong with Uxbridge and Harrow?! You can't afford 'better' or further into London. I would live slightly north of Heathrow (so in Hillingdon or Harrow boroughs) - south west you'll be affected by airport noise.

south west you'll be affected by airport noise.

I would think that if OP workes or uses Heathrow a lot then it might be fait to put up with its noise.

Sutton/Carshalton is nice. Lots of 3 bed semis for around £550k. Hackbridge is being redeveloped. Not sure there is loads there yet but it will definitely change over the next few years. Depends if you are happy to wait for what you want! Sutton has a good high street for shops. Reasonable numbers of restaurants, pubs etc around the area too.
