Can you buy when relocating for a new job?

We are potentially moving 5 hours away for a new job, but do we need to sell and rent in the new location? Until DH has been in the role say 6 months?
Or can we buy with a new job, will mortgage companies allow this?
Interested to know what other people have done.

I should be transferring but only part time available so DH’s salary is the main one right now. We will both be on the mortgage etc.

The main thing is that you won't know the area, so you might want to get a feel for the area before you buy.

It’s where I grew up, my family are dotted around so we know it well.
I’m just not sure the bank will let us buy with a new job.

Hello
I’ve just been looking into a similar scenario. I was advised by the mortgage broker that it would only be considered if you have had continuous employment at current address, and a contract of permanent employment virtually straight away at the house you want to get the mortgage for, in the new city

We moved 300 miles. We were lucky that our house had no mortgage so we just closed it up. We rented in our new area until we were sure we liked the area and the new job lived up to it's promise. We then sold our house and then bought in our new area. Time span was around 18 months.

We’ve moved for work, and bought, twice. Mortgage company wanted evidence of the new jobs (contract or job offer letter) and couple of payslips from old job.

Thanks folks!
Emailed the wonderful lady who sorted our last mortgage and she said no problem too. Phew!
(I say phew, still the whole selling and moving hurdle...)
