Options to warm up house with open plan conservatory.

We’ve just bought a house with a huge open plan conservatory. It’s runs almost the full length of the house - about 6 x 3 metes. It’s double glazed on three sides from about 40cm off the ground. The fourth side is brick. The roof is made of plastic sheeting.

The previous owners removed part of the external wall so there is no separation between the conservatory and the rest of the house. Unless the heating is on all the time the whole downstairs is freezing!

We need to be warm but we don’t have a huge amount of money. What are our options here? DH wants to keep the conservatory so getting rid of the whole thing is out of the question.

We’re thinking of reinstating the external wall between the conservatory and the rest of the house, or putting on some sort of lantern roof, or flat roof with skylights. Not sure this would be enough insulation though?

We are having the ultraframe livinroom roof installed. It is about 18m2 worth of roof and will cost about £12k. It will be insulated, lights installed (about 14 led spot lights) and plastered.

As for the foundations, the paperwork we were handed over by previous vendors showed the details and the foundations were deeper than recommended as we have a huge oak tree nearby.

We also had Anglian, who installed the original conservatory give us a quote and they pulled out the old details from the 1st time. The frame is still in pretty good nick. We had debated about a new roof on an old frame but it is still in really good condition.

I'm currently having conservatory woes as well. We had a temporary fix to the roof (leaves would blow in) but need to decide what to do next. Considered the companies that do an internal ceiling but were warned that if the roof ever leaked you wouldn't know.

We have the drainpipe running internally and a window leaks, thinking replacing the glass and roof might be best. We have lockable doors in-between and a plant (something to do with planning) but have proper heating.
