Cost of changing fireplace?

Does anyone have a rough idea how much it would cost to remove a gas fireplace and brick surround and to install a wood burning stove with some kind of tasteful mantelpiece/surround please? I'm literally looking for ball park figure, assuming no major structural complications.

I paid just over £2k to have a gas fireplace taken out, the space knocked out for the stove, chimney liner, stove itself and all the fitting. I didn't buy a mantel or surround as there was a lovely stone lintel and the fitters cleaned up the exposed brickwork and fitted a stone hearth.

Ours was around 3k all in.

I have just had a three quotes to install surround, stove and liner.

All came in around £5k

I've just paid £3k for a nice Stovax inset fire and flue, etc. No changes to the surround. Add a bit more if you need scaffold for the chimney stack.

We've had two fires done. Both included; old fire stripped, new wood-burning stove with installation, chimney lining, new chimney pot, carbon monoxide alarm and a nice surround. Both were £2k each.

Brilliant, thanks for all responses!

Ours was 600 for the work to remove existing gas fire and make the space, 2.6k for a gas stovax burner and another 200 for a wooden beam to create a simple
surround.
Bear in mind that depending on the flue you have for your existing gas fire, this can affect things greatly. It wasn’t until we were in the process of removing ours that it was obvious how pathetically small our flue was which restricted what we could have in its place, how to fit it and also how they could create a suitable surround for it. They actually had to build slightly into the room to increase the size of the chimney breast....

This is what we ended up with and I am delighted with it, but it’s not the wood burner we were hoping for at the start.

Our cost us £3,000 all in (south west). Removal of gas fire, knock out, liner, fire, and new oak beam. Money well spent for us as it's transformed the whole room. We use the fire most nights.

£2500 to remove an open fire and install a multi fuel stove with liner and slate hearth.
