Kitchen corners

Ok so I know corner cabinets are rubbish, but it’s the only way we can create enough work surface as we have a lot of glass in our kitchen (plans). Our corners will only house the underfloor heating system and boiler for hot water tap.

What’s confusing the hell out of me is the cabinets either side of the corner. I would like drawers next to one corner and a dishwasher next to the other. My question is how will they open?

Do I need some sort of spacer to give them both some distance? I’m loathed to put in a random wine rack or tray space I don’t want or need!

I have a corner unit similar to this:

Drawers on one side and dishwasher on the other. No problems opening any doors or drawers. No wine racks needed!

Your kitchen supplier will supply a spacer for the very corners, allows them all to open.

My corner units are the same as the ones linked to by MsMamaNature

I have corner units so do most other people I know, I'm not sure why they're supposed to be rubbish. Ok I can't find or see anything that's in the bottom shelf of the unit 😁 but what else would you put in the corners?

All doors and everything on either side open fine no need for spacers

If you have sticky-outy handles you will need spacers. Don't need to be much more than the depth of the handles though - allow 5cm, I'd suggest.

If your doors have builtin slot handles, and your walls are square (or slightly wider than 90 degrees) you won't need more than half an inch.

You can get those fancy swooshout shelves to make a deep corner cabinet more useful. Not cheap though. www.thespruce.com/functionality-of-your-blind-corner-cabinet-2109373

Putting your hot water stuff in the blind corners is going to make it an absolute arse to service...

I find the Le Mans pivoting shelf excellent.

I have plumbing in one corner, and get to it by rolling out the dishwasher, which I have put on a mobility trolley. In my case a 600x600 pice of worktop is attached to the appliance and comes with it, otherwise you would have to crawl into the corner, which is tiresome.

We have that pivoting shelf in our corner unit. It’s great. Very sturdy and holds lots of things.

Spacers! Brilliant why didn’t I think of that. Problem solved ☺️

Often called corner posts. They usually come as standard with corner cabinets.
