My house needs rewired and I need advice please!

Would appreciate anyone's ideas at the mo. Have lived in our house for 20 years. It's our home and I'm really concerned about the disruption rewiring is going to cause.
All the stuff I've read tends to be people buying houses that need rewired, ie. they don't already live there and have a lifetime of stuff/furniture etc! We have had furniture (beds etc) built in situ, are we going to need to dismantle everything and remove it?
A couple of the rooms are decorated the way we want and most rooms need work, the bathroom and kitchen mainly but we don't have the funds for all of that currently.
Basically, does anyone have any sort of advice or info that will help. I'm feeling overwhelmed with the magnitude of what's ahead and want to be as prepared as possible Confused

First thing is why do you need a rewrie? If it's due to faulty wiring then ok, but if it's due to needing more socket points etc you have more flexibility in how you do it. An occupied and decorated rewire will always be a lot more expensive then an empty house which will be refurbishments anyway.
A good electrician may refer you to a good decorator so they can cut wallpaper and make good without much destruction. But if you're using the house they have to keep things clear and working and clean every day before they leave which costs chargeable time.

Thanks @johnd2. The wiring isn't faulty as such but is old and hasn't been looked at in many years. We have a few electrical issues and don't want to do any decorative work if it needs a rewire the not too distant future. There's potential for us to stay with family during the works but it's mainly our stuff that's concerning me now! There's just so much planning that needs to go into it logistically!

We were living in our house when we had it rewired. Move as much stuff out of the house as possible. Take up carpets, curtains. The dust and mess was horrendous. Stay elsewhere to sleep.

A good electrician or electrical firm will be as tidy as possible when chasing in cables etc.
One thing to be aware of, you mention that only some of the old wiring is to be replaced.
In order to give a safety certificate indicating that the electrical wiring is up to current standards, ( necessary once the work starts ) the electrician might have to do more work than you anticipate.
