Anyone know what could be up? The filter pump is okay. @pigletjohn if you're around would appreciate your expertise please!

Is there a loose hose somewhere?

PigletJohn · 18/01/2019 20:26

yes, it's quite likely the hose attached to the pump.

Turn off the electricity and unplug it first, then turn off the water supply, then pull it out and lie it on its back. You will probably be able to see the pump, with a hose in and a hose out. The tub rocks and wobbles while the machine is working, there's a fair chance this has cause the hose to split or come off.

But you need to decide if water started coming out when it was in a fill cycle, or later. This will give clues.

The (electrically operated) water inlet valve(s) are probably at the top of the back. To get at them you will probably have to take the top off. It is probably fixed to the front panel in some way and in my experience the plastic attachments will break if you don't know the particular model. You may also need a special screwdriver.

I'd say you have a chance of changing a rubber hose on the pump by tipping it onto its back, but not of anything else. Ask around for a local appliance repairman, there is sure to be one. A personal recommendation is much better than an advertising recommendation website where the traders pay to be listed and can control the reviews that get accepted.

It might cost about £60 for a local person callout, depending where you are, plus parts. Consider the age and value of your machine first.

If it's under guarantee, call the company.

Bosch, and presumably others, offer a fixed-price "repair and one year's contract" carefully designed to cost just a bit more than a repair.

Don't put the machine on its front or its top as water may drip into the electrics. Washing machines are intentionally heavy.

Post photos of what you find.

Thanks PigletJohn! We tried to check the pump again and the front snapped off Shock The machine is fairly old - it might just be more economical to replace it.

if you tip the machine onto its back you can probably see the pump and its hoses.

I kept finding a pool of water beneath the front of the washing machine and couldn't work out where it came from.

Called out repairman (it was still under guarantee) and it was a small split in the rubber seal around the door opening. Chap said it was quite common.

We had water coming from underneath and once we'd cleaned out the filter trap, all was good again
