Cardboard boxes and showers

Hi all - I have had terrible problems with my shower processing unit freezing - its in the loft so gets chilly up there. My pipes are lagged and someone has suggested putting a cardboard box with holes in over the unit. Has anyone done this? Sounds like a fire hazard to me but apparently not....

you could also make a box out of plasterboard, which is fireproof.

In an occupied and heated house, plumbing will not usually freeze if the insulation under it is taken away, and insulation is flopped over the top. This puts the pipes and stuff inside the heated envelope of the occupied space.

you have to insulate it all though, even a short bit of pipe exposed in a cold loft can freeze in an hour or two.

lagging pipes in a loft will only slow down the time it takes to freeze, but allowing heat to leak up through the ceiling will warm them a little.

Thanks PigletJohn. Not sure I'm handy enough to make a plasterboard box. I think I will go up into the loft this weekend and make sure insulation is not under the pipes.
