New house - New Boiler

Moved into new home a few weeks ago, we knew when we bought the property the boiler was on it's last legs.

Quotes are in from plumbers, we've never heard of a Baxi boiler before, it comes with 7 year guarantee. Anyone got anything good/bad to say about Baxi?

I have one. It is very good. Our plumber will only fit Baxi he says. Though he is probably on commission!

Baxi is about half way down the list of boilers surveyed by Which? It scores 54%. Worcester Bosch, vaillant and Viessman have scores in the 80s. The lowest rated is Ferroli at 35%. So not the worst, but not the best either

You are now in the middle of winter, when neglectful owners have woken up ans started to have their boilers repaired and replaced. Installers are busy and prices are high. July is a better time, if your old one is still working. Have you got a cylinder? How many bathrooms and showers does the house have, and how many people are likely to live there?

There are three brands of boiler that top the "Which" reports for reliability and customer satisfaction. You could do worse than start there. Baxi is not one of them. The manufacturers' websites usually have a list of Approved Installers so you can search by postcode. Often the warranty will be extended is you use one from their list. A personal recommendation for a local installer from a recent customer you know and trust is worth a hundred times more than one on a "recommendation" or advertising website. The quality of installation, especially cleanliness, makes a big difference to the life of the system.
