Moving from London to Liverpool

My partner, Daughter (17m) and myself are thinking to move from London to Liverpool because London has become way too unaffordable and I hate it here. Has anyone moved from London to Liverpool or have any tips. We are thinking of moving to the city centre. I’m 6 months pregnant so was wondering whether the maternity services are good, is there a lot to do with children? How are the transport connections as we both do not drive. Silly question probably but we have lived in an extremely multicultural city our whole lives, is Liverpool similar to London in terms of multiculturalism as we are all mixed race. Thank you in advance!!

I am from Liverpool, lived in London for three years and now live in Manchester. I think it would be a great move. Look at Aigburth or mossley hill if you want easy access to city centre, but a great location with a house rather than a flat. It is a very multicultural city and maternity services, eg the women's hospital, are great.

I moved back to Liverpool after 20 odd years in London. No regrets yet!!

We moved back to Liverpool last year (not from the area but spent much of my 20s here for work). I had my second child at Liverpool Women's Hospital (southeast bit of the city centre) in the summer, and they were terrific. South Liverpool is popular - Aigburth, Allerton, Mossley Hill - and there seem to be playgroups, classes, etc. The south of the city also has some big parks. Buses are not bad into the city, and the Merseyrail website can give you the local train information. North of the city, areas like Crosby are nice and very established, or Waterloo is a bit more up and coming (and seems very vibrant). The city centre is a mix of flats, lots of student accommodation, etc. The centre and the bits very immediately south (e.g. Toxteth) are probably the most multicultural areas; some other bits of Liverpool are very white in terms of the population.

Everyone always talks about how friendly scousers are but I really didn't find that all all. I moved there from the East Midlands and the fact that I wasn't from the North West seemed to be a massive issue for loads of people! No idea why, I'm super friendly etc. I moved away from Liverpool after 4 years and have happily never returned.

Scouser away from home here.
Its a great city. loads to do with kids. plenty of culture.

City centre living a but hit and miss - mainly flats and student gaff. Not much green space.

Great maternity services. The Womens hospital is world class and I had great support do homebirthing I thst your thing?

Others are correct re : multicultural areas. The south of the city is more mixed. The North not so much.
Areas like Smithdown/Wavertree, Toxteth and Dingle (but not riverside/east of Park Road, weirdly ) are super multicultural with great international supermarkets/shops/places to eat.
Moseley Hill and area surrounding Sefton, Calderstones and Princes park are lovely. Liverpool has some amazing parks.
All of these areas are 10-20 mins out of the city but with excellent bus/metro services.
Taxis (and pretty much EVERYTHING else) are way cheaper than London.

I love my City and miss it very much.

Oh, and Scousers are friendly - but the key to survival is truely being able to take the piss out of yourself - others will, you'll need a thick skin 😉 the humour can be cruel. Give as good as you get an you'll be fine.
