Flame rollout.. HVAC heating and water system..

We have a extremely old boiler in our rented accommodation. It basically uses gas to heat air and blast it round the house, and uses gas to heat the water. The hot water has no timer so I have to manually light / extinguish the gas light. I've noticed burn marks around the funnel (where the gas burns and blast heat upwards) and today I noticed that the flames are rolling out of the funnel occasionally.

We're due to get the boiler replaced but should I be pushing for this to be done sooner rather than later - I've never had one of these boilers before so I'm not sure if it's in the realms of normal?

Worth asking for the landlord to send round a gas service engineer to give it a review, definitely.

Landlord has said its normal and no risk, just a slight bsckdraft of the flames.

I hate old boilers, don't trust them.

Your boiler should have a landlord's gas safety certificate, valid for 12 months.

When is your next check due? Is it worth asking for it to be done early 'just in case'?

Christ sakes! Turn that bloody thing off now and call the gas board to check its safe! It sounds to me the thing should be condemmed flames from a boiler should not be allowed in a room ever heard of Carbon Monoxide poisioning?.

Also if its a rented house it must have a gas safety cert with it an that check should be done once a year!.

At best phone whoever is on the safety cert and ask them for their opinion.

It had its check done a few months - passed.

Carbon detectors are outside its storage area. And three more dotted about the house. All OK.

Landlord adement all is OK. Can I call the gas people myself?

Yes no reason why you can't.

Any possiblty that you could post a picture or two on here as your implying that flames are coming into a room thats not normally right at all.

It might be possibile that it has devloped a fault tho!.
