Best way to swag the pendant light so it's actually over the table with pics

Please can I have some advice so that I can tell the electrician in advance what I expect? Just in case he was planning some lovely thick trunking across the ceiling!

I need to move a pendant light about 1 meter diagonally so that it hangs over the table in the kitchen. The electrics were done before the kitchen was installed so I got the position totally wrong.

*The quote to move it says 90 + vat no building work by which I understand he won't open up the ceiling to hide the wiring.

So how can he do it? I like these pendant swags on Pinterest see the pic, but will it work with my old chandelier which has to be suspended at both ends as well as in the middle? Should the extra ceiling fitting be a hook over the table like in the Pinterest pic, or
should he move the proper ceiling fitting to the new spot and make the original entry point the casual hook one?

What about the wire itself? The lamp
wire is kind of transparent - What would be best on the extended bit? Would he be able to bring matching fancy wire? *

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Is there access from above? Otherwise I don't see how he can move it without at least using a small core drill and hooking the cable through, if it's long enough to reach the correct place. Otherwise you'd need conduit or a hook on the right side of the ceiling.

Has he been to see the job before quoting because I would expect to have discussed how exactly it would be done with him?

What you're suggesting won't work with that light fitting.

minipie · 07/01/2019 16:26

Fraid I agree with Tractor. Move it properly or leave as is.

Or swap to a different light fitting like the one in the Pinterest picture.

Thanks all of you for the replies.

He didn't see the job first Wowfudge - it was his team that did the electrics a few months ago so I just sent him a photo showing him what I wanted moving.
There is access from above if he takes up the floorboards.

By doing it properly Tractor do you mean he opens it up from above and makes a new hole in the ceiling in the right place?

Yep

Although it may be possible to do it from below - he’d have to make a hole in the right place and then try to find the wire int the ceiling using a hook and fish it across to the new place. Depends whether joists are in the way but it is possible. Then there’s the issue of closing up the previous hole but hopefully it’s not too big.

Thank you!

He will not relish the fishing method Grin you may have to twist his arm

Yikes he is a giant Ukrainian, only speaks Electrical English. Just hope he has covered the chapter on fishing!

I’m guessing you can’t just move the table?

DaturaDream · 08/01/2019 16:51

Wish I could NC4now but the room wouldn't work with the table right in the middle where I stupidly had the light put
