Has ours changed a couple of years ago after we were burgled. It was frightening when we realise how useless our previous euro locks had been. We may as well had left our house unlocked.

Defiantly worth getting anti snap and anti bump locks. For your average burglar.

Issue with this is if they’re going for your car they will just smash your windows in to get it.

When I got robbed. They watched me leave the house in my old car. Waited 30 mins according the time stamp from my alarm/cameras.

Smashed in my front door 5 lever dead lock, yale secure night latch.

Got to the inner door 5 lever deadlock and magnum antisnap lock. Couldn’t get in so went around to the patio door crowed bar it to death.
Went back to the front door- smashed through the glass- couldn’t get in so shouldered the door till the brickwork gave in.

They got a set of keys but for old car. Ran out assuming it was for the new one but it wasn’t.

I’m sure if was in they would of just smashed my face in for the keys.

I parked my car elsewhere for 6 months till I sold the house. Angry

My point was I wished I had crap locks in that instance. I would of paid less fixing the doors, brick work, windows and tiles!

I had a conversation the other day with a friend who is a locksmith. He said that most people just have crap standard locks and he had yet to encounter the likes of the Avocet ABS on domestic property ! He did say though that in most cases, unless our specifically targetted by the more professional burglar,,the sight of decent security usually makes most of them move on to something easier.

My recent experiences are..
A friend who went away on hols for a couple of weeks and didnt even leave any lights on timers/alarm not set..got burgled.

I recently went to a house left unoccupied over the xmas period for a week ,,again no lights, burglar alarm fitted not switched on.,,all single glazed windows..

Another which just had a simple night latch on the front door, the ort of thing that can be flipped with a plastic card,,no mortice..

I guess like everything else, you never think it will happen to you..

Our house has the abs locks which seem to have worked but the keys have a magnet in so you end up wiping the mag stripes on all your cards if you're not careful, that's really annoying

Arnoldthecat · 06/01/2019 16:18

yes true, because they are complex keys they need a bit more care.

We have a dog, who turns into a nasty aggressive type whenever the doorbell rings/someone drives/walks past.
Postie and delivery men are REALLY scared of her. Reckon she's the best deterrent
