And how big is it?

We're planning one as part of our extension and am trying to work out how big it should be and what should go in there beyond a washing machine and a pull-down airer.

Ours is 7m x 3m and has cheap and cheerful kitchen units for all the 'stuff' we don't use regularly, a boys fridge/freezer full of beer and pizza, the washing machine, boot racks, recycling bins, coat racks and 4 dogs.

Oh, and the deep fat fryers so they don't stink out the kitchen!

Love mine! Moved end of last year and am now addicted to the utility room which has our washing machine, drier, double sink, extra fridge, tall freezer, gun cabinet, handheld hoover, shoe rack and boot rack in, space for 3 drying racks plus loads of cupboards full of cleaning and laundry stuff plus little used kitchen goods and an entire tupperware cupboard.

I keep my Shark in mine too!

Ours is massive (relatively) as it was the original kitchen when we moved in. We built a new kitchen / diner and kept the entire old kitchen as utility. It's kind of half utility half bootroom.

We have the boiler in there, a large sink, washing machine and dryer, plenty of cupboards for cleaning supplies, tools, crap like light bulbs, batteries, first aid kit etc and a big cupboard for the all important SHARK Grin and stuff like the ironing board, etc. It's has a ceiling mounted clothes airer and two big velux windows so we can let air in. A fridge freezer- so handy to squeeze a second one into the utility if you can. Then big cupboards for all our coats, shoes, bags etc. Some coat pegs, a radiator, dog bed and laundry baskets etc.

We absolutely love it but tbh even if it was a third of the size, just getting your washer / dryer etc out of your kitchen makes a massive difference. Do it!
