Trying to buy a gift for my husband who is a DIY enthusiast. He has the usual cordless drill etc etc so I'm trying to come up with something a bit different...proving tricky as I know nothing about DIY.

For context, we are currently living in an old terraced house which is in need of full renovation. We will be using professionals for big jobs however he likes to try to do as much as he can.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

How about a new tool box or tool belt. Cordless drills are always useful.

Leatherman? (All purpose tool?)

We’ve been doing some renovations and something that’s come in handy is an extra long spirit level, especially when doing the curtain poles!

Also we’re forever loosing tape measures so you can’t go wrong getting a couple of those!!

Every time I use my laser level I think how much easier it makes certain jobs.

Laser levels are great.... my builder DH loves his.

Only small but I love my silicone smoothing tool and metal filler smoothers in various sizes

Maybe a set of tap spanners

Removable head screwdriver set with every possible head type

Great ideas! Thank you all, especially liking the laser level!

Our laser level has been useful for all kinds of things. Also agree that a multi tool is good if he doesn't have one.

A workmate, asuuming he hasn't already got one?

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 04/01/2019 15:11

Does he have a socket set?

You don’t say how old your house is, but the Haynes ( as in car manuals) book The Victorian &Edwardian House Manual is a really useful and interesting source of information.

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 04/01/2019 16:26

@Beebumble2 it's an Edwardian Terrace, what a fantastic idea!
