We've just moved into a new house and I'm sure it should be a lot more energy efficient than it is. The boiler is serviced and fine, the thermostat is old, the loft might need more insulation, the windows are double glazed. I don't know where to start with looking at the thermostat and if it's possible to isolate rooms without payingfor a nest! Are there any impartial services that can come out to your house to give advice on what you can do to improve energy efficiency?

Following. My Friend employed an energy consultant who looked at all the ways that the house lost energy and costed how much each improvement would be vs approx savings. We need to do the same. Sleeping in double thermal layers in freezing bedroom and wiping down single glazed sash windows daily....

Are you renting or have you bought it? If you're renting get a copy of the EPC which will tell you areas of improvement.
You can get an EPC done on any property for about £50, just do a search for a local EPC assessor. They will provide you with a certificate giving the energy efficiency score out of 100 and suggest improvements. You could also pick their brains whilst you had the assessor there if you wanted to.

Check the EPC and also get on to the Energy Saving Trust. They are there for impartial advice and can advise you about getting an energy audit done and whether you qualify for any grants for improvements.
