We have new born(s) twins. We are currently living in Gateshead Tyne & Wear and looking to move to spacious house soon . We would like to know some information on the following :

  1. Family friendly areas

  2. Prefer to be Central- close to park, metro, supermarkets, shops (10-15 minutes walk or 5-10 drive)

  3. Good Child care options

  4. Good schools (approx. 3-4 years on)

  5. 3-4 bedroom independent house with garden and minimum 2 bathrooms (old and new development) -Prefer new or semi-new as older properties I've seen have just one bathroom and no ensuite).

Looking forward to some suggestions based on the above .

Thanks

Do you mean somewhere in Gateshead or anywhere near a metro? What’s your budget?

Angeleyes24 · 03/01/2019 11:30

@Loveslabourslost : No I am flexible with the areas jus want something which matches the above criteria. With regards to budget as we are new here don’t know much about the price range . From what we read and see online it seems like we should keep a budget ranging between 150-200/250 .Suggestions about this will also be helpful

Generally the schools are best in North Tyneside, but the housing is more expensive. There’s a lot of new build around Northumberland Park metro station which might be worth looking at, but might be too expensive.

I lived in Heaton, Newcastle, as a student and it’s a very mixed area - families, students, older people. Good and sociable, plus parks on your doorstep which are lovely.

Jesmond and Gosforth are also diverse, but more expensive.
Heaton Park, Armstrong Park and Jesmond Dene all link with each other which is a lovely walk. Interesting with the show tree too! 🤣

Not many new builds to my recollection in those areas and I don’t think you’ll get anything in Newcastle for your budget, if that’s your monthly budget anyway.
If you have up to a grand a month you can get some lovely places in any of the areas I have mentioned. You’re also not be far from Whitley Bay. The beach is lovely!

I’m not sure about schools, but colleagues raved about one in Jesmond. They moved from Heaton to near Jesmond Dene to fall in the catchment area.

So jealous, I loved it there and would move back if I could. Good luck.
