Painting oak kitchen units

I have a solid wood oak kitchen, it is a horrible orangey colour. I want to paint it a pale off white/ cream colour to brighten up the room. It needs to be hardwearing as I have four children and pets so need to be able to wipe down any spills.

I will need to sand and prime first but i’m unsure of what type of paint to use for the actual cupboards and plinth. Any advice would be great.

Oil based eggshell probably your best bet if doing it yourself.

Is it an in frame kitchen, if not then there are companies who will take the doors away and spray them which will be more durable and a lot easier!

I will need to take all the doors off to paint them. I had wondered about a spray paint company but assume it would cost a lot of money.

Use zinser 123 (red one) as a basecoat then colour of choice on top and maybe a varnish to make it more hard wearing. We have and it transformed the room. Well worth it, and wish we had done it sooner.

I second getting a professional company to spray paint the doors. We got a quote and it was quite reasonable (cant remember actual cost). We'd done it ourselves, primed it properly etc but used F&B eggshell and it wasn't hard wearing at all.

We did ours with a special kitchen cabinets paint. It was from Wickes I think. Worked really well.
