Splitting up bathroom into two

Hello and merry Christmas!

I have a 1930s bathroom and separate toilet. I am inclined to knock down the wall between them, and convert to two separate bathrooms with the intention to make one en-suite (based on rough measurements it should work). Just to make things easier (!), the wall to be taken down is load bearing - the toilet space is too narrow to convert into a full bathroom in its own and the door to en-suite will also be on a load bearing wall.

Has someone has experience if doing something similar and will £15k be enough or am I being optimistic (I’m in Essex)? The entire suite will need updating including flooring etc, I’m happy to source basic materials but appreciate labour will be pricey. I haven’t got much time for diy myself unfortunately.

Also is getting tradesmen in to do this whilst I’m at holiday a bad idea or do they need regular monitoring - it’s the first time I’m getting them in for this long!

Thanks a lot and hope you all have a fab day!

It sounds enough money to me. You should not go on holiday but try to take time off work and be there.

We did this as part of a bigger extension although we added the landing space. Space might be tight if you don't. Our ensuite is 2.6m x 1m with the door opening into the bedroom and the bathroom is 2.6m x 1.8m. I wouldn't go smaller than that and you have to be clever with fittings and placement of fittings to make it work.

Thanks for the replies!

Yeah I think space wise it’s ok as the actual bathroom is spacious but we’ll get someone to sort out designs looking at the pipe work so it’s practical.

I was concerned about budge and also I was tempted to just be away for a couple of weeks to avoid the mess but might stick around to watch the tradesmen for a bit.

Now to find the tradesmen..
