Subsidence claim

Cracks have appeared in the extensions (one built by us , one before we moved in 18 years ago) on our house. Contacted insurers who appointed surveyor. Heard today that insurers are not going to pay up as foundations are not deep enough. We were obviously unaware of this and all work is signed off by buildings regs. Any idea where we go now? Feeling fed up as obviously believed all work was as it should be and wondering what the point of buildings regs and insurance is if they don't pay up in these circumstances ?

I think I would formally ask that question of the insurer and get their written answer if you haven't already. Is it actually subsidence of is it that the extension isn't properly tied in or both?

Have a look at the Financial Ombudsman website or give them a call.
You need to follow insurance co complaints procedure before you can approach them formally but they might have some technical guidance.
