I need to buy or make a box to house litter trays

This might be a shit idea, but I need help working it out.

I keep the litter trays in the (currently unused) box room which is L shaped.

Next year, I’m going to need to use the room to work from home and some other things. I’ve got nowhere else I can keep the trays permanently and don’t fancy sitting in the room with them for hours.

I want to put something over them to ‘separate’ them from the rest of the room. I’m thinking something that looks like a wooden blanket box, but with a bottom panel so I can just slot it over the two trays. Plus a ‘doorway’ for the cats to go in. Without measuring, to cover both trays I think it’d need to be 1m2 in size.

I’ve already considered and tried closed litter trays, but 2 cats just wont use them 🙄

I figured if I did this, I can use the top of the thing for storage, filing etc. aswell.

Can anyone come up with anything?

Some good ideas here

There are tons of ideas on the web for hiding litter boxes; I hope you find something suitable.

Sounds like a good idea. I made the cupboard under the stairs the dcats ‘space’ for litter tray plus other bits and just had a regular cat flap put on the door.

Can you just put a large shelf on the L part so it’s sturdy enough for books etc and cover the front with plywood or similar with a cat flap. Then you can put more shelving in that space. I suppose it depends how big that part of the room is.

Also possibly consider lighting inside, I’ve put motion sensor lights in cupboards before for the dcat....reading that written down I sound batshit Grin

Lovely, thanks everyone.I’ll have a look at that link.

Shelf might work actually, if I can find one big enough to cover the area

I love the idea having lights in there tooGrin

I made the Ikea stuva one linked up thread and it works really well. You need to line it with a big dirt catcher mat that you can buy in Pets at Home . You will have to cut it to fit. I didn't bother with a light. I got the stuva box with actual handles rather the cut outs to stop smells leaking out. Had it two years now and it's still going strong!

We bought one (lived in the states at the time) that was like a large hinged lid blanket box with an open cat flap sized hole in the end. It fitted a large litter box with space to spare and was about knee height. Ours was covered in carpet so the cats used it for scratching as well.

Looking at the stuva box now, that’s pretty much the idea I had in my head. I might get two, as it might get a bit tense if they ever want to go at the same time Grin

Thats a great idea about the carpet twobluefish. I have an offcut left over from our stairs, I couldn’t bare to throw them away as one of the cats claimed and loves itGrin So it’s stashed in a square compartment in the wardrobe as a bed/scratch mat.

What we do for cats eh!

We found a similar solution, stashing the tray under an Ikea Lack side table, and boxing in some of the sides initially with a piece of fabric and later more permanently with wood panels painted to match the table.

Think about the litter you are using too. Some brands/types are better at controlling odour.
