Woodwork treatment - has anyone had it done?

We have just had an independent timber specialist do a woodworm survey in our house, and he has found live infestation on both floors in all rooms Shock. So it looks like we will need treatment of the whole house - has anyone had this done? Is it hugely disruptive? How did you survive?? I reckon we will need most of not all furniture out and all carpets up 😫.. trying to process it all mentally at the moment, it's all a bit overwhelming. Would love to hear any experiences from you lot out there.

That should obviously say woodworm treatment in the title!

I'd start by curing the damp. Worm needs a certain amount of moisture in the wood to feed and survive. Modern centrally heated houses are usually very low humidity and live worm not often found (sometimes in the loft, around the hatch where it will be warmer).

The spraying smells a bit, and you really need to empty and clean the floors. Obstructions will prevent it being done properly. They may offer to cover the floors afterwards with thin polythene so the wet chemical doesn't soak into your carpets. It's much easier in an empty house.

They are supposed to protect electrical stuff from the spray.

How did they know the infestation is active? Can you see clean holes with fresh dust under them? Are you in or around Surrey, where the Longhorn Beetle is found?

BTW, does "an independent timber specialist" mean "a person who sells woodworm treatment?"

If so, what did you expect him to tell you?

I visited an Independent Transport Specialist recently. He analysed my needs and told me I needed to buy a car. Luckily he has a car showroom.

We had our previous house treated for woodworm.
We had wooden floors so they had to take every fourth floor board up to spray under. Also drilled holes to spray under the stairs
Also spray in the attic.
We re decorated after as the fluid had soaked through the plaster board ceilings.
We moved out for the two days it took.
The fluid is highly toxic .They gave a 30 year guarantee.
It was A three bed semi.

@Purplehammer oh goodness, it sounds like major upheaval! Did you have to move furniture out or were you not moved in yet?

I'd have thought it was obvious that an independent timber specialist is not affiliated with a company that sells or performs woodworm treatment.
