Where do I buy a longer bed for my very tall son?

Really appreciate some help here and don't know where to post this.
Does anyone know where I should go with my son (age 13 but looks 16) -for a new bed urgently. His childhood bed is broken and he has neck and shoulder pain.

He's slim and is about 180cm tall already at 13. Feet reaching end of single bed.

A European single? Ikea? Dreams? Internet purchase? John Lewis were a bit useless.

Thanks in advance for any help

We had to go for a double bed for DS, he sleeps across it. Fortunately, double fits in his room. Malm from Ikea.

stirling · 15/12/2018 23:17

OK thanks mayhem, I'll look it up now...

King beds are longer. My cousin had one made for him because he could fit a king or dpuble in his room when he was younger but I don't know where he got it sorry.

Jack65 · 15/12/2018 23:43

Our Ikea superking is great, 6ft 6 long and he can always diagonal.

But then you would need to ask about custom made mattress ...

Nacreous · 16/12/2018 00:02

I think buying one without a foot board could be a good idea, as then he can always put feet off the end if he gets even teller. My friend who is 6'7" (so just about 2m tall) uses a double with no baseboard and manages okay.

vdbfamily · 16/12/2018 00:06

My DH is 6'7" and as long as a bed has no footboard he is generally fine if we are away from home. At home we have a super king width and longer than standard frame. We sourced a pair of longer mattresses that had been a cancelled order for a hotel. It is worth googling for info as there is a bed company in London who do extra long but I cannot remember. My daughter is 6'3 and fine in a small double bed at present.

Mine sprawls in an ikea besta double. Diagonal space and no foot board. If

Honeyroar · 16/12/2018 00:13

My husband is 6'4 and we manage with no footboard and a blanket box at the end of the bed with a blanket folded on top of it!

ChesterGreySideboard · 16/12/2018 00:14

DH is 6’4.
We have a king sized which almost does the trick.

MsMamaNature · 16/12/2018 14:33

www.thebigbedcompany.com

They do beds in 200cm, 205cm, 215cm and 220cm lengths.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 16/12/2018 17:49

I would just go for a double divan and let him sleep diagonally, that's what my tall son does.

If you buy a special bed then you have to buy lots strangely-sized bedding too.

bbcessex · 16/12/2018 18:26

We got ours from the Long Bed company. My 6’4” husband genuinely sleeps properly for the first time since we met 20 years ago.

ChishandFips33 · 16/12/2018 18:44

Similar issues for DH and his brother
growing up. Doubles without footboard when living at parents but now a KS. We have a footboard but it is wide spacing bars so his feet go through

We also have an IKEA single loft bed from yonks ago which appears to be the same length as a king size - do IKEA still do the European sizes?

ChishandFips33 · 16/12/2018 18:46

Can vouch for IKEA mattresses too - DH has chronic back pain and their medium firm (most expensive one, can't remember the name) has done wonders - far better than the previous Tempur we had

Flowerpower321 · 16/12/2018 18:47

My teens have doubles with no footboard and are fine.

DelphiniumBlue · 16/12/2018 18:49

The Big Bed Company - I had one made for 6'4 DS.
His slightly shorter brother is fine in a double By himself as he can go slightly diagonally. Don't know how well that would work with a partner, though.

stirling · 16/12/2018 20:53

Thanks everyone some really good suggestions. I felt frazzled in ikea today, they only had one long European single bed which had a weird huge headboard. He found their only euro mattress uncomfortable. King and double might be too big as his room is small ish.
Going to look up some of the suggestions

Thank you

Depending on your ceiling height, a double loft bed? Bigger bed + keep space underneath for desk / wardrobe.
We have an IKEA Hovag firm European double, it's a little bigger than a regular double but makes all the difference.

ChesterGreySideboard · 18/12/2018 17:54

Eve sell European sized mattresses, so the single is 2 metres long.
The only problem there is getting sheets to fit.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 18/12/2018 22:43

My tall son has a small room, only 3x3m (ex. fitted robe) and he has a small double (4ft) bed which fits pretty well and leaves room for a big gaming desk and chest of drawers. He also has a small double in room in Uni halls. He's fine in both.

kizkiz · 19/12/2018 16:59

I'm 2m tall and was a similar height to your son at that age. My parents put a shelf on the wall at the head end and my pillow went on it. Meant I could keep the single bed and had no issues at all with length
