It's a Vaillant & the screen is dead. Does this sound like an electrical fault to you? I've got a heating engineer coming out tomorrow at an eye-watering £180ph +vat. Shock London f*ing prices. Has anyone got any bright ideas? I checked the fuse board & surprisingly we don't have a switch named 'boiler'. But none of the switches had tripped anyway.

Is it still under guarantee? Hopefully you will have a 5 yr plus guarantee. If not, you might have to suck up the horrible cost. His there an on/off switch on the wall near the boiler? If there is try switching it off and on again. I know that sounds a bit basic, but worth a try maybe? I feel for you as Our boiler is about to die and we’re having to get a new one (Worcester Bosch) which is being fitted next week. A bit more expensive, but it will have a 10 year guarantee. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted.

Yeah there is an electrical on/off switch by the side but it makes no difference.

They have internal fuse boards, donors potentially that. If so, it's a couple hundred for the bit plus labour 🙄

Check your original paperwork, and it should hopefully be under warrany. 5 years is usual. You usually have to go through the manufacturer for warranty things.

Rollercoaster1920 · 14/12/2018 16:35

Warranty is usually dependent on annual servicing. That caught is out on a boiler issue because we forgot one year

Trethew · 14/12/2018 17:41

I had a valiant installed three weeks ago. Comes with 7 year warranty

Trethew · 14/12/2018 17:42

extended to 8 years if serviced annually, but need to register it in the first place

mummyhaschangedhername · 14/12/2018 17:50

So is the boiler running? Is the screen dead but the boiler working or is the whole thing Off?

MayhapsIAm · 14/12/2018 17:55

I've just had a vailant boiler installed and got a 10 year guarantee so hopefully yours should still be covered

Arnoldthecat · 14/12/2018 18:45

180ph..? i must put my rates up...

Tinfoyle · 14/12/2018 19:53

The whole thing is off. I thought it was working because we have hot water but apparently the tank makes that. I've no idea about a warranty because it was fitted pre-divorce & exdh took all paperwork with him. I don't even know who fitted it.

Ring Valliant direct and ask them if the boiler has been registered with them under warranty.

£180 seems crazy, even for London prices.

PissPotPourri · 14/12/2018 19:58

One of the mant many reasons Vaillants are better than Worcester Bosch for example are tgat they come with good warranties. 7 years minimum.

Celeriacacaca · 14/12/2018 22:26

I'd disagree PPP. Our WB has a 7 year guarantee, dependent on annual servicing. It's a great boiler too.

if a fuse has blown, don't just change it. The fuse is to protect the electronics when a fault occurs. If you change the fuse without finding and repairing the fault, you are putting the fault current through the device again, and sooner or later it will probably be damaged.

On boilers, electrical faults are often caused when a plumbing part leaks and water drips onto an electrical part. The water may dry up due to residual heat so may no longer be visible when you look.
