AIBU or should herringbone tiles be 'straight'

Tilers are part way through tiling our bathroom. We've got one wall in small brick tiles which we asked for in a herringbone pattern. I expected them to do this straight with all cuts at 45 degrees. They've done it on a random angle - should I have specified they needed to lay them at 45 degrees? Even the B&Q tutorial starts with an explanation of how you cut the first tile at 45 degrees to ensure the tiles run in a 'straight' line floor to ceiling.

They're back in the morning to finish and we need to work out if we can live with it. We've been 4 weeks without a bathroom 😭

Yeah I couldn't live with it

Good news - complained and straight away the boss tiler was like 'that's not straight'. Spoke to his guy who said he noticed halfway but decided to carry on 🤦🏻‍♀️

They're going to re-do at their expense. Only trouble is this causes a delay but the tiler boss and the overall loft boss are trying to get it sorted ASAP.

It's not grouted yet so they can reuse most of the tiles.

Thanks for help! Genuinely thought I was just being fussy at the start.

Also my photography is shocking! I'll get a good one when it's done.

Love your terminology of "to let boss" and "loft boss". I've had such a rubbish day and you've made me genuinely smileGrin thank you! Yes tiles were off and it's a ball-ache being without a bathroom but you have made a woman on the edge really chuckle . I heart you op. Lovely tiles when they are on straightSmile

foreverblessedbee · 13/12/2018 21:10

*TILER Boss obviously!!!!!!!!!!

skenn3285 · 14/12/2018 02:56

@foreverblessedbee aw glad I made you smile!

I was so sad when I first saw them, my husband sent me a photo of him and his team at work contemplating them which made me chuckle too - just what I needed!

Men never admit that they are wrong. It's always another reason.

skenn3285 · 17/12/2018 17:48

We now have tidy and undeniably straight tiles but running the opposite way 🤦🏻‍♀️ moot point really as we've discovered the tiles are out of stock so we can't buy any to replace the ones wasted on attempt one to finish the wall 😭

Maybe gin is the only way forward now op...... xxxx

loveulotslikejellytots · 17/12/2018 18:27

Not what you were asking but I prefer them running this way! It looks lovely!

PlumbingQuandry · 17/12/2018 19:12

I have to add, I love them running this way too. It's a new look & it's very neat. Just tell everyone you planned it this way. It looks more 'edgy'. Very trendy.

MessySurfaces · 17/12/2018 20:44

Yes yes! Herringbone is just getting a bit overexposed, so you have gone for a fresh take (or something)! But glad you didn't throw in the towel and go with the pixelated pornography look...

ForgivenessIsDivine · 18/12/2018 08:24

What????? How could anyone put them up like that???

TigerReindeer · 18/12/2018 08:31

I agree with other posters. I actually prefer them running this way. It’s a modern take on a classic - pretend this was the look you were going for!

Racecardriver · 18/12/2018 08:35

Do you think they did it wrong again on purpose?

skenn3285 · 18/12/2018 17:42

The grout is now on and actually it looks great, not what I expected but still lovely. And incredibly neat. We're able to seal up the top foot or so until new tiles can come so we can finally get the shower plumbed in! Like a couple of you said - no one knows this wasn't the plan. Much calmer now. Also windows have gone in the loft so we're generally making good progress :)

And being so different to the original mistake maybe I won't always now think of pixelated pornography while I shower 😂

DumDumgirl82 · 18/12/2018 17:53

I think the original tiling was like an optical illusion

vegascouple · 18/12/2018 18:02

We had our kitchen done in herringbone, our tiler HATED us for it 😂 even more so that we went with white metros and dark grout!
Nothing better than a herringbone, provided it's done right that is haha!
Looks lovely now op.
