Boiler just woke me up making really loud motorbike / rumbling sound

I genuinely thought a motorbike was parking outside my window it was so loud.

The heating wasn't on.

What could the problem be?

It's a rented houseshare and the boiler is fairly new, but apparently it's happened once before though my housemate didn't think to bring it up. Confused

Thanks!

There's also a little pool of water below it which apparently often happens too...

We also can't control the heating by thermostat on the wall and have to individually turn any radiators on and off.

I've just Googled and apparently you're only meant to have to top up the boiler pressure once or twice a year? I've done it 5 times in 3 months so far.

Thanks again. Ughh

Ours does that, sounds like it's going to explode sometimes and it loses water/pressure frequently. Only reason we haven't done much about it is because we'll change it next year when we renovate the whole downstairs.

Get your landlord to have someone look at it.

Have just emailed the agency, but I don't have much hope because in 3 months I have a list of 15 things that were wrong with this house.

Our shower when used leaked into the room below. They had clearly dodgily attempted to repair it before by boarding up part of the ceiling, then this time they replaced the bathroom flooring and the cutout board but seemed to have left the actual cause - I think the pipes.

Most of our radiators have been leaking too Xmas Hmm

Can't wait to move

Thank you

Go outside.

Look at the outside surface of the wall that the boiler is fixed to.

You will probably see the flue (might be two concentric white plastic tubes, about 100mm diameter, one inside the other)

And a couple of feet below the flue, a small metal pipe, about the size of your finger, bent back on itself so that if any hot water comes out, it will squirt at the wall and not outwards onto the heads of anybody.

Is there any suggestion that water has come out of this pipe? If it is accessible, you can hang something like a plastic bag on it so it will look full if water has flowed. Or there might be a wet patch on the brickwork or below.

What is the reading on the boilers pressure gauge when cold? And when all radiators are fully hot?

How old are the radiators?
