Would appreciate views on putting good quality sealed cork tiles all through flat (except bathroom but including bedrooms). The thing is I might wind up staying in the flat due to Brexit and this is what would work for my family (challenging child). Would cork in bedroom put you off. Current flooring is in quite poor state.

Personally I would hate cork.

I would rather have cheap cushioned vinyl everywhere.

justthebeginning · 05/12/2018 18:51

I would like it, personally. Easily sweepable/cleanable without being too hard and cold like tile or laminate. Perfect.

beachbodyunready · 05/12/2018 18:59

I'm afraid that cork would put me off, as above I'd prefer vinyl flooring or neutral carpet throughout.

3in4years · 05/12/2018 19:49

Yes it would put me off. Wood or carpet for me. Tiles for kitchen and bathroom. I hate laminate and vinyl but at least you can get rid of them easily.

DrWashout · 05/12/2018 20:03

I'm afraid it would put me off. Friends had it and couldn't wait to get rid.

Would bamboo be an option or is it too hard?

didireallysaythat · 05/12/2018 20:10

I love cork. We have it in our bathroom. Prefer it over plastic vinyl any day

EdisonLightBulb · 05/12/2018 20:16

I moved into my house in 1998, every floor had cork tiles. I ripped them all up, bloody awful in the 90s, but in 2018? What are you thinking?

littlecloudling · 05/12/2018 21:44

It'll be a corker.

No... don't

MumOfTheMoos · 06/12/2018 17:07

I would not put cork down - your buyers would be calculating the cost of ripping it up and replacing it and be taking that off the price.

SD1978 · 06/12/2018 17:12

I despise my cork floor. I am waiting for the day I can afford to get rid of it. I think it's not big a divider personally- you will have people put off by it, and others who don't care

SealSong · 06/12/2018 17:26

I suspect most people on this thread are thinking of the cork flooring circa 1980.
There is some fantastic modern cork flooring
such as this that bears little resemblance to the 80's style varnished cork, and the modern stuff looks lovely, is warm underfoot, lasts well and cork is sustainable eco friendly product. I honestly don't know why it is not used more (I think cos people are just not aware of the new stuff).

didireallysaythat · 07/12/2018 17:59

@SealSong I think you're right.

Personally I hate the look of amtico - doesn't look like wood and eyewateringly expensive to fit.

Not sure I'd view a house and factor in how much it would cost to rip it up and put it in a skip, and reduce an offer accordingly. But in MN world some brightly coloured cushions will transform a location, lack of a garden and sell a house....

llangennith · 07/12/2018 18:46

No! Cork is awful and expensive to rip up and make good.

wineymummy · 07/12/2018 21:25

We have just put the modern cork down just like sealsong link. It's warm, soft, bounces light around, and it was a lot cheaper than a decent timber or amtico. I love it. I think people hear cork and think orange tiles but it's nothing like that these days.

FrogFairy · 07/12/2018 22:20

I really fancied cork floor for my kitchen but nearly fainted when I saw the price.

OP I have heard good things about bamboo flooring, might be worth considering.

aske · 16/04/2019 15:04

What did you decide in the end OP? I was recently flat hunting and I can still clearly remember the one with cork flooring. It was very, very nice; looked cosy and practical. Now it's my preferred option for our own refurb...

Perhaps it's about making sure it looks good; people might be pleasantly surprised?
