Would we be mad to up sticks and leave London?

Due to the high cost of living, pollution, crime, commuting times and general business.

As an ex-Northener, I know we could have a better quality of life if we moved North. I’ve lived here for 10 years now and have a nice circle of friends, like my job and my eldest has just started reception - so leaving in some ways doesn’t make sense. But a move North would make financial sense and we could have a better support network in terms of childcare.

Should we? Shouldn’t we? I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts. Thank you.

I mean to add - we took secret option 3. Moved out of London to elsewhere in the SE, out of commuter land. Cheaper houses, not cheap but not such silly money, and to our surprise, no pay cut.

I'm a northerner and couldn't for one second imagine living in London (my family are all from down that way).

Come.... come over to the light side... Grin

Out of interest, did any of you have school age children? Did they settle ok following the move?

Yep, my dc were 6 and 9. My 9 yo missed her friends for a while but also made new ones really quickly. 6 yo was fine. 4 years later, both are really happy we moved here. Lovely village, good schools, bigger house.

@DrWashout - where is secret option 3??

@1bow - we live in northeast London (Highams Park)
